Before I begin discussing science in general, I believe it is necessary to explore where rationality (and, by extension irrationality) come from, better to shed light on why people hold rational or irrational opinions, and why, perhaps, they refuse to give them up, even under enormous pressure. This will also serve as a good place to describe some basic terms that will be in use in this blog. Interestingly, rationality and irrationality actually share a common heritage.

Having seen a plethora of sites and blogs that do very well at defending certain aspects of science from the onlsaught of irrational forces, I decided to do something perhaps a little too adventurous and set forth, in blog form, a defense of all science in general.
The posts and pages herein will, I hope, eventually form some sort of body of articles on subjects ranging from why science works, to what common errors in understanding exist (from those who both accept and deny a particular theory), to, perhaps, an overview of the current state of play in many areas of scientific thought. I admit I am not an expert in many areas; my own preferred fields are geology and palaeontology, although I have a healthy interest in, and a decent level of understanding of physics, cosmology and biology.
All errors in this site are my own; I will reference and provide links to all cited material,, and occasionally address debates and problems as and when they arise, but essentially, this is an ongoing project to simply bring together as much as I can in the world of science and set it forth in a logical and understandable way.
See you all soon!
